Heartbreak

So something that has been on my heart lately is something that every person goes through on a daily basis, whether big or small. It's called heartbreak. This can be as big as someone dying or someone breaking up with you or as small as you losing you favorite pencil....now I know this may seem like that is a really minor thing, but here's the thing. If it matters to you, then it matters to God.

Matthew 10:29-30 New International Version (NIV)
29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. 30 And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

If you really look at this verse you will see that God cares even about a sparrow. Now take a second and think about that, a sparrow is a wonderful piece of creation but it is not nearly as important as you are.
Recently I have been working through a major heartbreak. When this happened, I felt very vulnerable and insecure. I got mad at God and thought that not only had people deserted me but so had God. I am slowly realized this was not the case.
I realized that it was actually God telling me I was relying on people too much and leaning on them to give emotional support and to tell me how to live my life. God was showing me that humans will fail you and that we to rely on Him all the time. Not just in the easy times but in times or heartbreak or sadness.
Heartbreak is one of those times where we feel very useless and maybe even stupid about how we feel. We may have the idea that we shouldn't feel a certain way but in reality every person is affected differently by different circumstances and it's always ok to feel the way you do. Now I know this may sound cliché but I can promise you one thing....God has a plan for you and for everything He does in your life. (Jeremiah 29:11)
We need to turn to God with what is on our hearts and we need to always remember that He hears us, all the time, no matter what else is going on. He is like a stuffed animal. He is always there, always ready to listen, a shoulder to cry on, a place to go to with your secrets, and most importantly a Father to His children. He will always be there to pick us up when we fall and to walk with us always. Even when it doesn't feel like it He is there guiding your every foot step and helping you when you trip or are having a hard day. He cares about each one of us so much that He sent His only Son to die for us. (John 3:16) Now I would say that that shows that He cares about us immensely. He knows you better than you know yourself. He knew that you would be reading this at exactly this date and time and knew what would be going through your head at this moment. He knew all of that before He even created earth way back then. He knew what heartbreak you are going through and what comfort you  need.
I would highly encourage you to take up your Bible (or go to biblegateway.com or use a Bible app) and just spend a few moments maybe reading a Psalm or Proverb, praying, and just pouring out your heartbreak out to the One who can help in ways that you might known were possible.

  1. Good post, Katherine. And I think it's easily something that we can overlook in going through a heartbreak that God actually does care, just like your mom or dad would care if their child was in pain. And He cares very deeply. So thank you for the reminder, and I'm deeply sorry for your own heartbreak.
